First Day of Autumn

We spent yesterday saying "Fall has fallen" as we went to church in the cold rain and came home to drink tea in front of the fireplace. Just two days prior, we were quite warm in the sun during our garage sale, but we have noticed the plants and trees putting on their fall colors for a few weeks now. It's time to put away the capri pants and sandals and pull out the jeans and boots. I even bought a new sweater on Saturday and wore it on Sunday. The forecast is for a 33 degree low tonight . . . please tell me there's not a chance of snow . . . not yet!!!

Homeschool has been hit or miss (mostly miss) the last two weeks due to colds, sinus infections, and making decisions on our upcoming move. We officially started school on September 8th with a trip to the County Fair to see the animals! Princess M loved reading every sign with the names and info about the animals, and although she was leary about touching many of them, she was thrilled to pet a nine-day old piglet and I think she snuggled every single goat! I will not be ordering our actual curriculum for the year until after we move, so I am making-do with some workbooks from Costco. We are using Jesus and Me, Boz's Big Book of Bible Fun for our Bible time. It is a pre-school level Sunday School type book, but we are just loving it, and the lessons are very good. We also have Brain Quest Grade 2 which includes a good social studies section that will help prep us for starting MFW Adventures in a few months. The third book is Hooked on Second Grade, which really has a lot of silly stuff, but M loves it. I'm supposed to be focussing on Math Skills during this transition, but it's so much more fun to work on reading and writing! I need to add some daily addition and subtraction drills to our day, and I'm going to pull out my manual from MFW First Grade and reuse the book list for all the wonderful Math Books from the library. Today was supposed to be our first official day of homeschool for the year, but M wanted to start earlier. I'm so glad that we took our annual "first day of school trip to Starbucks" and took pictures outside two weeks ago when it was sunny and not on this dreary-weather day.

T has started his new job in Denver as of last week, but was able to come home for a long weekend. He returned to Denver this morning. We should have our house on the market by this weekend and are praying that it sells quickly (for the right price) and we are able to move soon so that we can all be together and settled. Please pray with me during this time that we all stay healthy and that we handle the separation comfortably. We also need the Lord to send us the right buyer for the house and for Him to continue to direct this move.

And now it's time for another cup of tea and some play time with M. Although a "first day of fall trip to Starbucks" is sounding pretty good right now . . .
