20th Day of Advent - Opening Gifts

We're into the 20's - Christmas is coming fast! T is home now from Denver, everything is decorated, and there's just a few more presents to buy and wrap. As long as we don't get too overwhelmed with more snow, the week should move pretty smoothly. The topic for today, Opening Gifts, was really more about family traditions - when does your family open gifts, Christmas Eve or Christmas? What's your favorite family tradition at Christmas?

Princess M declared that her favorite tradition is having everybody over for a big roast (prime rib) dinner and just playing and laughing. Really? I shouldn't have been so shocked, I guess, because Christmas is indeed a time for families to get together. My favorite tradition when I was a little girl was to turn off everything but the Christmas tree lights and lay on the living room floor listening to Christmas music. T said his favorite tradition when he was a little boy was making ornaments by pushing cloves into oranges. Really? I think there's going to have to be some recreating of that memory going on - that sounds too good to pass up. What a wonderful thing for him to remember!

We also talked about how special it is to find a perfect gift for someone, and how happy you are to watch them open it. Think of how happy the Father must feel when we accept the gift of His Son. And like the ADVENTure book says, you don't even have to wait until Christmas!
